With backgrounds in computer science, three educators have come together to discuss how AI has affected their teaching, examination strategies, and their assessments of AI’s role in supporting learning. Despite coming from different departments, we have observed similarities in how students use AI tools for their assignments, as well as common mistakes when students try to disguise AI-generated text (e.g., references). At the master’s level, students often admit to using AI for proofreading and translations. We will present our shared knowledge and the strategies we have implemented to address these issues, such as assessing student learning through oral discussions and incorporating honesty statements for transparency. As educators, we must understand these tools ourselves to recognize patterns of misuse and opportunities for education. Additionally, we can leverage these tools to support student learning and enhance our work efficiency. We also share experiences where AI tools aid in the development of course content, examinations, and assisting learning at a bachelor’s level.
This talk will share the experiences of three educators: one from the Information Systems department and one from the Computer Science department at Karlstad University, and one from the Computer Science and Informatics department at Jönköping University.
