Kamal Kishore<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and Head of UNDRR<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kamal Kishore leads the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction since his appointment as the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2024. He gathers nearly 30 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate action, and sustainable development at the global, regional, national and local levels, having worked in government, the United Nations and civil society organizations. Prior to joining UNDRR, Mr. Kishore was the Head of Department of the National Disaster Management Authority of India and led the G20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction. He previously spent 13 years with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), supporting disaster resilience and recovery efforts worldwide, and has extensive experience in disaster preparedness, policy development, and post-disaster reconstruction across Asia and globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takako Izumi is Deputy Director and Professor at the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University, Japan, and Chair for Japan of the MIRAI Global Challenges team (GCT) on Climate adaptation, disaster, and risk management and prevention. Her research focuses on international strategies for disaster risk reduction (DRR), humanitarian assistance, and the roles of diverse stakeholders \u2014 from local communities to international organizations \u2014 in building resilience. She directs the APRU Multi\u2011Hazards Program and leads major global DRR initiatives. She has conducted research on the roles of NGOs and NPOs involved in disaster risk management and their future contributions based on the experiences of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, the Kumamot earthquake in 2016, and the Western Japan flood in 2018, focusing on the collaboration between municipalities and local NGOs and NPOs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helena Gullberg<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Senior Consultant in crisis management at Murphy Solution and expert in societal resilience, total defense and emergency preparedness<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Helena Gullberg has a strong academic foundation with field-based expertise gained through working in several of Sweden’s major crises and representing municipalities in the development of the Swedish framework for Command and Collaboration in Societal Disruptions. She has extensive experience across public sector organizations, consulting, and professional training environments. She works closely with municipalities, government agencies and private companies to strengthen crisis response capabilities, collaboration structures, and organizational preparedness. She has worked with the leadership and management of several major Swedish societal crises, including the 2014 and 2018 wildfires and pandemic-related response efforts. She is particularly recognized for her ability to translate complex issues related to risk, preparedness, and collaboration into concrete and engaging perspectives for both academia and practitioners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
