Feedback and Examination (AEX-2502)

The participants are introduced to different forms and techniques for examination together with discussions concerning formative and summative feedback.

Examples of techniques and situations discussed in the course:

  • Giving feedback that supports further learning
  • Giving written and spoken feedback, as well as feedback through video recordings
  • Letting students assess their own performance/skills
  • Measuring and assessment in large groups
  • Assessing skills
  • Assessing performances in group work
  • Justifying grades and grade proposals
  • Online assessment
  • Using tools for different kinds of online examinations (for example Wiseflow, Canvas Quiz, oral examination, etc.)
  • Using tools for automatic plagiarism check

Note that the teaching language this semester is in English. Depending on the participants, discussions can be done in Swedish for those who wish.

Course objectives

The objective is for the course participants to learn to:

  1. Use the terms formative and summative feedback as a means of reflecting on the different purposes of assessments, as well as the relation between them
  2. Reflect on the design of examinations and how they are used, in a formative and summative perspective
  3. Reflect on how different forms of feedback can be used as a support for further learning
  4. Use established models for assessment and feedback in order to identify problems and further develop their professional practice
  5. Design, motivate and argue for a chosen form of examination for your own course linked to the course’s intended learning outcomes and course design.
