The current project, Online Ladino teaching – challenges and possibilites – is a one-year post-doctoral study financed by the Centre for Language and Literature Education [CSL] at Karlstad University. The project aims at collecting the experiences of persons around the world who actively teach or have taught Ladino; “teaching” is here to be understand as all kinds of activities aimed at revitalising, preserving and/or enhancing knowledge in and about the language, and especially such activities that are carried out digitally, e.g., via online classes, in social media, in online chat groups, and so further.

The main research questions are:

  • What resources are used in Ladino teaching?
  • How are these resources used?
  • What challenges do the teachers perceive now, and for future teaching activities?
  • What needs do the teachers see to be able to continue their activities?

The participating Ladino teachers are based in several countries and continents. Interviews are carried out via Zoom during the spring of 2022. The project will be up and running during all of 2022. Comments and participation from Ladino activists who have not yet participated in interviews are very welcome!
