Wibke Straube, PhD
In my research I focus on ecological imaginaries and the non-binary and trans body in times of planetary emergency. In the past years, I have written about the aesthetics of pollution in films and question of posthuman ecological intimacy. In my more recent work, I engage with environmental discourses, the emergences of the trans body as an environmentally polluted body as well as trans environmental art. I am currently working on a monograph in this topic. Besides this, am interested in experimental research methods, academic/activist and autoethnographic writing approaches. I am part of the Nordic Trans Studies Network as well as the Nordic Network for LGBTIQ+ Health and Wellbeing.

In my research I am interested in trans masculine embodiment and questions of knowledge-production. In my most recent article I consider the (non-surgically altered) trans penis as a part of body-reflexive practices of masculinity, a significant part of building trans male identity. I am a doctoral student at Helsinki University and as living both in Tampere, Finland, and Karlstad, I am an active member and co-organiser of the Trans Research Platform as well as active in the Nordic Trans Studies Network.
