Topic 5: Lessons learned – future practice

ONL course was a great experience for me from several different aspects. First of all of we were came from wide variety of field and experienced in different education systems. secondly, we could share our experiences by using the online platform, which we could learn from online collaborative tools. we have had chance to experince different tools (e.g., Padlet, miro, FISH model in google drive). I will try to benefit from digtal tools in designing and developing my course as well as re-designing course objectives in Business administration. My suggestion would be adding contribution and implication of learned outcomes in different fields in ONL groups.

Topic 4: Design for online and blended learning

The Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework as a pedagogical model enhances the students, learners and educators’ learning process when there is a strong sense of community, interaction, and critical thinking among them. Generally, when it comes to digital and online education platform, disregard the advantages and accessibility opportunities, active presence of students is challenging. In order to have a better interaction in digital environment, I design classroom ethics in a more personal and adjustable way.For example, in one of my bachelor courses, I had to explain the situation of zoom class and comfort zone, as one of my students was very stressful of presented herself in front of camera and some were stressed because of noise of other family members during zoom class. In zoom classes, I try to include individual written task and presentation as substitute of on another, which everyone can benefit from their strength to contribute to the course. During the pandemic and distance learning, we haven’t had control over the social interactions between students in breakout rooms and we adopted to be more responsible while we are authorized. During ONL courses, I really appreciate the application of ethical issues on digital transitions and how we can benefit from different tools (e.g., Padlet, Micro, break out rooms) to contribute to greater impact on students’ learning processes. I also benefit from breaking out rooms for group activities which I can have chance to easily join each group by monitoring and helping them. Moreover, I have tried to ask students’ preference for managing the class via Padlet to get sure that everyone is comfortable with the setting. Therefore, I believe that, we need to design objectives and goals before using these platforms to optimize the applicability of them, same as what we do for course design .The CoI Educator Survey could be a very good tool to measure the level of presence, teaching presence, and cognitive presence in an online course, which we can identify areas for improvement and guide the development of effective online teaching practices and i will try this for my future course.

Topic 3: Learning in communities – networked collaborative learning

To me development of supportive and social environments always move my thinking, which in a bigger community as the society learning recognizes that people learn best when they are able to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with others. In course development, I try to focus on student learning community, which I try to manage the course outcome by engaging them in discussion and group collaboration as well as participating in workshops in the process of learning . in terms of physical or digital learning communities, I try to use both and some how blended approach. I use Padlet, Mentimeter, zoom and canvas in different ways to motivate and engage the students. As an instances, I use Padlet to capture students’ anonymous point of view which this tool allows them to give feedback on each other’s presentations when number of students is 50 or more. Overall, learning in communities is a powerful and effective way to support learners in their learning journey, by providing them with the social support and connections that are essential for deep and meaningful learning.

Topic 2: Open Learning – Sharing and Openness-PBL 6

Open learning to me is the extension of accessibility to educational approaches that prioritize accessibility and inclusivity. It is important to me to benefit from technological tools to enhance the accessibility of materials in online courses, open educational resources, and other methods of learning that are designed to be freely available to anyone who is interested in participating. I really value the goal of open learning to make education more accessible and affordable for students/ people regardless of their geographical location or socioeconomic status. At Karlstad university, we really value open-access research, which based on university contracts or funds from projects we pay a share of the publisher, and then everyone can have free access to recent research. in many countries, in Africa or Asia people do not have access to educational institutions or unable to afford the cost of tuition and other fees. Through the internet and digital application wide veriety of materials such as youtube tutorials, webinars and e-book could contribute to the well-being of societies. Additionally, technology has also facilitated the creation of online learning communities and forums, where people can connect with each other, share knowledge, and support each other in their learning journey. For example, technology had a critical role in the growth and development of the open education movement toward digital currency and financial analysis. It is important to contribute to openly licensed resources (e.g., OpenCourseWare, the Open Education Consortium, and the Open Educational Resources (OER) Commons) in the classroom so that students can understand the outcomes of open learning. I try to always include open learning resources as one of the resources for assignment completion and also digital tools (padlet, google drive, miro) in group tasks to practice open hub knowledge generation.

TOPIC 1: ONLINE PARTICIPATION AND DIGITAL LITERACIES

Welcome to my first reflection on digital literacy. it was really interesting to read about visitors and residents of digital literacy conceptualization by watching David white’s video and online seminar. When it comes to describing my relationship with digital, I see myself as more residence as my social visibility is highlighted when I post on Instagram, tweeting, blogging, or sharing comments on Canvas as a teacher. My type of online behaviour shows a consistent social trace which could be within a closed group of my students and colleagues as well as my close family and friends on social media or on the open web. I can consider myself a native speaker if “Digital” is the language because I don’t think of how to use tools when I need them, I subconsciously use them when collaborating and cooperating with my colleagues and students. However, I cannot relate it directly to the generation I belong to, there are so many other variables such as individual characteristics as a human, education and own experiences regarding the digital area. I believe that even as native speakers, we cannot call ourselves good academic writers. We still need some skills to express ourselves in a proper manner. Therefore, we need to practice and learn from weaknesses and mistakes to improve our skills. Based on our fish model we came up with, security fears, different cultural backgrounds and individual competence in the digital area as the most important issues. To address digital competence issues, I could offer my students different alternatives solution for digital courses. For example, when I have a course with internarial students via zoom, I explain in detail how we are going to use each feature in zoom and why we use it. I send them a written agreement like a questionnaire to see how they are comfortable with interaction during the online lecture and explain we are flexible and comfortable behind the camera. It is important how we can support students or colleagues to transit from visitor to residence in the digital environment. accordingly, I imagine that I want to support a tourist (visitor) in my city or country to be a resident. So, for each step they take, they need to enjoy the environment and while we provide them with all information, whether they catch it easily or it might take time for them to adapt. Like a newcomer in a town with different culture and induvial background, “real experience” is an important factor for adaptation.
