Kamal Kishore leads the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction since his appointment as the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2024. He gathers nearly 30 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate action, and sustainable development across governments, the UN, and civil society.

Takako Izumi is Deputy Director and Professor at the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University, Japan, and Chair for Japan of the MIRAI Global Challenges team (GCT) on Climate adaptation, disaster, and risk management and prevention. Her research focuses on international strategies for disaster risk reduction (DRR), humanitarian assistance, and the roles of diverse stakeholders — from local communities to international organizations — in building resilience. She directs the APRU Multi‑Hazards Program, leads major global DRR initiatives, and has extensive field experience with UN agencies and NGOs.
