Multiplier event in Karlstad
Knowledge needs to be transferred and make useful for others to be meaningful. With a set of multiplier events, the partner organisations arranged happenings of different kinds in order to spread the results from the Transit project. The Transit multiplier event that was held in Karlstad was organized by Karlstad University and Karlstad municipality in collaboration with the public transport company Värmlandstrafik and local bicycle dealers. The aim was to disseminate knowledge from the project through a bicycle-day aimed at citizens, politicians and officials.
For the multiplier event, a parking lot and square area was transformed into a meeting place for citizens, politicians and other stakeholders where you could try out different types of bicycles and special bikes, learn more about the bike sharing system that the regional public transport company has and submit comments to Karlstad municipality on how cycling can increase.
The structure of the multiplayer event has been based on the two best practices developed within the Transit project and how they can contribute to cycling in Karlstad.
Best practice 1: Strategies for increased cycling are about creating long-term conditions in physical planning for increased cycling. At the multiplier event, there was an opportunity to meet Karlstad municipality and discuss and leave views on how we can get more people to cycle in the long term.
Best practice 2: Soft measures for increased cycling are about how marketing, communication and trial measures can be used to increase cycling towards different target groups in society. At the multiplier event, in collaboration with bicycle sellers, a try-out was carried out on the day, medium bikes and special bikes for citizens as well as the marketing and bike sharing project, which is about one of the behavioral projects that have been carried out in recent years.
