ABSTRACT

In this study, I present a practical case study of how the intended learning objectives (ILOs) of a second-cycle course (FEAD 11) in Business Administration, can be modified and further developed to ensure clarity and conciseness (less ambiguity) of the ILOs. Furthermore, this study presents practical examples and critical considerations of how teaching and examination activities could be developed to cover all aspects of the ILOs. To attain these objectives, the study adheres to the pedagogic recommendations of Biggs and Tang (2011) and specific academic recommendations related to the subject area (FEAD 11). Furthermore, the study complies with European regulations (ESG), national regulations (The Higher Education Ordinance, 1993:100, The Swedish Higher Education Act, 2006:173, and SUHF REK, 2016:1), and related local regulations at Karlstad University.

The results document a potential ideal example of designing ILOs, and subsequent teaching and examination activities with the assistance of systems within the University, that could result in high-quality learning objectives and efficient and effective teaching and examination activities. This study contributes to current knowledge by identifying critical and relevant considerations in designing ILOs and efficient teaching and examination activities to attain these ILOs. This practical case study serves as a critical reference to enhancing the overall quality and attractiveness of our portfolio of courses.
