ABSTRACT

The focus of this presentation is a new LCA course which will commence from autumn 2022, and be offered at the subject of Environmental and Energy Systems of the university. The structure of this course makes it quite diverse – regarding both the skillsets we intend to impart and the experience
we intend to provide to the students of working with this sustainability tool. Students will be introduced to the theory and then tested on their knowledge through a written examination. This will be followed by immersion in real-life, on-the-field LCA case studies defined by industries and organizations, leading to practice in LCA conducting and report writing. They will be guided in a structured fashion all through the course to use the ‘What, When, Why, How, Where and Who’ framework.

This stand-alone course will be open to anyone who is keen on getting a grounding in LCA, though knowledge of basic engineering subjects may orient it more towards those studying engineering. It is likely that over the years, this could be thrown open to working professionals from the industry. However, as the course may host students from different backgrounds, the role of the teachers in understanding, scoping and guiding, assumes paramount importance.
